Safety Tips for Your Pet on Halloween

Halloween is a festive and fun time of year for not only children and adults but can also be for your pets as well. Pet owners just need to be aware of there animals safety. Halloween can be the spookiest time of year and keeping your pet safe doesn’t have to be so tricky. Listed below are some safety tips to follow by to make Halloween a fun-filled time for all, especially your pets.

1. Keep your child’s treats in a safe place away from your pets. Those yummy chocolates especially dark chocolates, can be toxicity to your pet and make them very sick. Sugar-free candies containing the sugar substitute xylitol can cause serious problems with your pets.
2. Costumes! Please ask yourself before putting a costume on your pet, would you be comfortable in this? If you want to have your cat or dog wear a costume for the big night, have them try it on the night before to see how they react. Most time costumes can cause more stress to your pet then fun. Be mindful can they move their joints? Can they breathe? Are they enjoying this? Is this more for you or them?
3. As the night becomes busy and the doorbell is ringing and the children are screaming, “Trick or treat!” It will probably be in the best interest of your animal to have them away from the front door in a more stress-free environment. Also, if you let little Fluffy out to pee, please keep on a leash or tied on at this moments, so they don’t take off with all the hustle and bustle.
4. While a carved jack-o-lantern certainly is festive, pets can easily knock over a lit pumpkin and start a fire. Curious kittens are especially at risk of getting burned or singed by a candle flame. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins and decorative corn are considered relatively nontoxic but can produce stomach discomfort in pets who nibble on them.
