Rainbow Bridge Pet Remembrance day is August 28th. This day was founded to remember those furry family members that have crossed the rainbow bridge. It is a day for pet owners who lost their furry friends to be able to honour them, whether it is by sharing memories with others, to looking at photographs or going to all your favourite spots you once shared. This day doesn’t have a time limit on when you lost your pet. It could be as recent as yesterday to many years ago. It is a day to honour all of the animals that have touched our lives and celebrate it; however, you may choose, there is no right or wrong way.
This day was founded by author & blogger of Zee & Zoey’s Cat Chronicles, Deborah Barnes. Her long-time feline companion, Mr. Jazz passed away on August 28th, 2013. Thus, creating an event called Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day for all pet owners to honour their furry friends who have crossed the Rainbow bridge.
Like most holidays, this one doesn’t fill your heart with profound happiness, but, if you let it, it will fill you with happy memories.
As this day comes, take some warmth in knowing that all of us at Torbay Road Animal Hospital are sorry for your loss and think of you in your hardship. For all the furry companions you have lost, we would like to share the ever so famous poem.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in a joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
